Honestly, I think the new format doesn't lend itself to posting and carrying on discussion. It's colorful and slick looking but that's about it. We can request and accept "friends" but we can't carry on a decent conversation. Gotta ask youeself what's important...
Well unfortunately I have to say I too think this format is not working. Hell I don’t even check this site on a daily basis any more. It used to be the main stop! I really like this format but I have to agree with Adam, it doesn't lend itself to posting and carrying on discussion. So let’s post up and take a poll who wants to change it back?
I VOTE FOR THE OLD FORMAT!!!!
There wasn't much activity on the site before I switched to Ning either. Probably 1 to 2 posts a day. Certainly not enough for me to pay for hosting and spend time fighting off spam users which were over 50% of the registered users. Luckily most of them never successfully activated their account. For that matter, nearly everybody that signed up got the activation email marked as spam by their email provider. This was a significant problem, and not one I could effectively deal with.
I'm interested in suggestions on how we can improve the community. I do however think the real problem is not whether we are using Ning or phpBB, but that nobody (count me as the worst offender) has really promoted the site or tried to grow the community for quite a while.
I'd love to start doing some regular meet-ups. I don't however know any other riders in Austin, so I'm a pretty crappy promoter ;-)
